King county has new LIDAR data

New data

Since last year September or so I have been waiting for the new LIDAR data from King county. Wait is over, data is here and IT IS GREAT!

Old data

Old data was acquired around 2001-2005 and was pretty bad, Some pieces were acquired later, which made them better, but in general it was so bad, that I wrote an article on how I tried to extract goodness out of it (and failed...).

New data

It is not the absolutely greatest data in the dark forests of PNW, but it certainly is much better.

Comparison

In this picture, contours from old LIDAR data are in green; brown is the new ones: see how the ridge on the left center just disappears?

But what does it mean?

Well, if someone is into map making, then the new data is a must for all potential projects.
Forest runs is planning on updating the following old maps: Tiger Mt N downhill , Houghton transfer station of HBOC; Will Enger's Kirkland watershed, if we get hands on it. And add nice contours on the new map of middle Tiger Mt.
